This past Monday night I went and saw Australian band Tame Impala play at the Independent here in San Francisco. Their new album “Innerspeaker” has been getting a lot of play here at the studio and I was pumped to check them out live. I think their music lends itself well to the general vibe of San Francisco and when I got there I was happy to see that the place was packed and they were already on stage… Not a great show but not an awful one either. Like so many new bands I see live after getting into their albums, Tame Impala needs to work on their live performance. They seemed a little unsure of themselves and that always make me feel a little unsure of the band. A surprisingly young band that I’ll be following in the future for sure and I think they’re live shows can only get better the more they play together.

Very excited to be checking out NOSAJ THING at the Mighty this upcoming Friday night. “I guess it all started when I was in 3rd grade. My parents enrolled me in an after school program at the YMCA, and the bus driver that picked us up always had on the local hip hop stations. I would hear that everyday, and when I would get home I would want to listen to it more.”  It was not until high school that he began to produce on the computer when a friend gave him a bootleg music production software with which Nosaj Thing states he “installed it in my dad’s computer, and never looked back.” Sweet. For everyone in the Bay Area looking for something to do tonight I suggest getting out to see Lotus play at The Independent. I talked with the band yesterday and on this tour they’re putting their new light system to work, which includes LED screens and apparently goes a long way in melting faces. See you there.
